La prima serie della ABC Studios International, ‘Harrow’, una coproduzione Hoodlum Entertainment ed Australian Broadcasting Corporation, è interpretata da Ioan Gruffudd (Forever, Liar, Horatio Hornblower, The Fantastic Four), diretta da Kate Dennis (The Handmaid’s Tale, GLOW) e sceneggiata da Stephen M. Irwin (Secrets & Lies). Dopo una prima stagione di grande successo, che gli è valsa il Logie 2018 come Most Outstanding Drama Series, è stata confermata per una seconda stagione, in onda nel 2019. L’ABC Studios International ha 31 programmi attualmente in varie fasi di sviluppo e produzione.

Nel suo ruolo precedente di Executive Vice President/Head of Talent and Casting presso ABC Entertainment Group, posizione che ha ricoperto per oltre un decennio, ha supervisionato tutti i talenti e i casting per ABC Television Network e ABC Studios, inclusi quelli delle serie pluripremiate “Modern Family”, “Scandal”, “Grey’s Anatomy”, “Le regole del delitto perfetto”, “Lost”, “Desperate Housewives”, “Black-ish”, “Fresh Off the Boat,” “C’era una volta”, “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”, “American Crime” e “Quantico”.

Sotto il decennio di leadership della Lee, la ABC ha ricevuto un totale di 224 candidature agli Emmy e ai Golden Globe nella categoria Outstanding Acting, tra cui quelle di Kerry Washington, Sofia Vergara e Timothy Hutton; e 35 premi Emmy e Golden Globe, tra cui lo storico Emmy del 2015 di Viola Davis, la prima attrice afroamericana a vincere il premio Emmy come migliore attrice protagonista in una serie drammatica, e quelli di Regina King, migliore attrice non protagonista, Julie Bowen, Eric Stonestreet e Ty Burrell.

Lee ha guidato il lavoro del gruppo ABC Entertainment per portare maggiore integrazione e parità sullo schermo, una strategia che ha portato ad un aumento dell’indice di ascolto nazionale, oltre ad ampliare lo spettro del pubblico mondiale dell’azienda stessa. Talenti diversificati e internazionali sono una priorità strategica, oltre che una sua passione personale. La sua incessante ricerca di talenti internazionali le ha permesso di scoprirne diversi, come la star di Bollywood Priyanka Chopra, scelta per il dramma “Quantico” dopo un incontro in India, mediando un accordo in una realtà decisamente competitiva. Ha scoperto l’attrice coreana Yunjin Kim che ha recitato nella serie ABC “Mistresses” e il cui personaggio in “Lost” è stato appositamente creato grazie ad un incontro che Lee ha orchestrato con il produttore esecutivo J.J. Abrams. L’attrice colombiana Sofia Vergara è stata scritturata da Lee in diversi ruoli, fino all’interpretazione del suo ruolo iconico in “Modern Family”. Sara Ramirez è stata scoperta da Lee dopo lo spettacolo di Broadway “Spamalot” ed il suo ruolo in “Grey’s Anatomy” è stato creato dopo che Lee ha introdotto Ramirez all’ideatrice, sceneggiatrice e produttrice esecutiva, Shonda Rhimes.

L’impegno di Lee nella scoperta di nuovi talenti, l’ha portata a concettualizzare e creare ABC Discovers, una serie di iniziative importanti gestite da un programma di scouting a livello globale per cavalcare l’onda della tecnologia e consentire a creativi talentuosi di recitare, scrivere e dirigere i propri progetti originali e presentarli online. Ai vincitori del programma vengono offerti corsi di formazione e tutoraggio, oltre ad un capitale per realizzare i propri ambiziosi progetti. Come risultato di questo e altri sforzi, Lee e il suo team hanno scoperto e guidato più di 500 attori diversificati ed internazionali. Tra i partecipanti delle scorse edizioni del programma, l’attrice premio Oscar 2014 Lupita Nyong’o di “12 anni schiavo”, la vincitrice del Golden Globe 2015 Gina Rodriguez di “Jane the Virgin”, Chadwick Boseman di “Marvel’s Black Panther”, Meghan Markle di “Suits”, Jesse Williams di “Grey’s Anatomy”, Alexandra Shipp di “X-Men: Apocalyse”, Randall Park di “Fresh Off the Boat”, il giudice di “Ballando con le stelle” Carrie Ann Inaba e Cornelius Smith Jr., ospite fisso della serie drammatica ABC, “Scandal”.

Lee ha conseguito un Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy alla New York University ed è membro della Classe 2014 di Henry Crown Fellows all’Aspen Institute. È stata nominata una delle “25 donne più potenti della televisione mondiale” da The Hollywood Reporter nel 2017 ed una delle “Most Creative People in Business 1000” da Fast Company nel 2015. È membro del consiglio di amministrazione di NATPE, membro del consiglio nazionale per Step Up ed è stata vincitrice del premio Network Inspiration di Step Up Women nel 2012. È anche ex mentore del Ministero della Cultura e del Turismo della Corea per KOCCA e membro del Council of Urban Professionals, per il quale ha ricevuto il premio CUP Catalyst nel 2014.

Keli Lee, Managing Director, International Content, Platforms and Talent, ABC Studios International, leads the international division of ABC Studios, creating new opportunities for international co-productions, local original content, program formats and talent around the world.

ABC Studios International’s first series, Harrow, in partnership with Hoodlum Entertainment and the ABC (Australia)  is currently filming in Australia.

In Lee’s former role as executive vice president, Talent and Casting at ABC Entertainment Group, a position she held for more than a decade, she oversaw all talent and casting for ABC Television Network and ABC Studios, including multiple award-winning series such as “Modern Family,” “Scandal,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “How to Get Away with Murder,” “Lost,” “Desperate Housewives,” “black-ish,” “Fresh Off the Boat,” “Once Upon a Time,” “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” “American Crime”  and  “Quantico.”

Under Lee’s decade of leadership, ABC received a total of 30 Emmy Awards in the Outstanding Acting Categories, including Viola Davis’s historical Emmy Award in 2015 as the first African American actress to win Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama, Regina King for Best Supporting Actress, Julie Bowen, Eric Stonestreet and Ty Burrell; and 159 Emmy Award nominations for actors, including Kerry Washington, Sofia Vergara and Timothy Hutton.  During Lee’s tenure, ABC also received 60 Golden Globe nominations and five Golden Globe Awards in the acting categories.

Lee spearheaded ABC Entertainment Group’s efforts to bring greater inclusiveness to the screen, a strategy that has led to domestic ratings success as well as expanded global viewership for the company. Diverse and international talent is both a strategic priority and a personal passion for Lee. Her relentless and global search for talent led to the discovery of talent such as Bollywood sensation Priyanka Chopra, who was cast in the drama “Quantico” after Lee met her in India and brokered a talent deal with her in a competitive situation.  She discovered Korean actress Yunjin Kim, who starred in the ABC series “Mistresses” and whose character in “Lost” was created for her after Lee orchestrated a meeting with executive producer J.J. Abrams. Colombian actress Sofia Vergara was cast by Lee in several roles, ultimately starring in “Modern Family.” Sara Ramirez was discovered by Lee after the Broadway show “Spamalot,” and her role in “Grey’s Anatomy” was created after Lee introduced Ramirez to creator, writer and executive producer, Shonda Rhimes.

Lee’s commitment to finding global talent also led her to conceptualize and create ABC Discovers, a series of landmark initiatives with a globally focused creative talent recruiting program that leverages technology to allow acting, writing and directing talent to submit their original content online. Winners of the program are offered training, mentorship and capital in order to scale their skills.  As the result of this and other efforts, Lee and her team discovered and mentored more than 500 diverse and international actors. Past program participants include 2014 Academy Award-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o of “12 Years a Slave,” 2015 Golden Globe-winner Gina Rodriguez of “Jane the Virgin,” Chadwick Boseman of “Marvel’s Black Panther,” Jesse Williams of “Grey’s Anatomy,” Randall Park of “Fresh Off the Boat,” “Dancing with the Stars” judge Carrie Ann Inaba, and Cornelius Smith Jr., series regular on the ABC hit drama “Scandal.”

Lee earned a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy from New York University and is a member of the 2014 Class of Henry Crown Fellows at The Aspen Institute. She was named one of Fast Company’s “Most Creative People in Business 1000” in 2015.  She is a Board Member of NATPE, a national Board Member for Step Up, and was the 2012 recipient of the Step Up Women’s Network Inspiration Award.  She is also a former mentor to the Korean government’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism for KOCCA and is a member of the Council of Urban Professionals, for which she received their CUP Catalyst Award in 2014.
