Commissioning editor & coordinator international coproductions – ARTE GEIE

Madeleine Avramoussis is with ARTE since it’s launch in April 1992. She is a commissioning editor for broadcast & digital programmes.

Her current slot is about Portraits & Biographies, called “Documania” and it airs on Sunday evening at 10.30 p.m. in France and Germany. It is a captivating, author signature slot with a very strong narrative emphasis to tell the life story as an inspiring “hero’s journey” of internationally known personalities in the field of of cinema (actors, directors, writers but also in the field of sports, business etc.,– preferably from the 1950-60-70ies. Stylish and fluid editing is requested using personal archives (letters, notebooks, diaries, photos, films) together with varied audio and visual archives (news, radio, film clips) and first hand accounts. It is an ambitious and creative strand providing inspiring tales of human destinies.

Prior to this, she commissioned more than 60 internationally coproduced programmes for the legendary THEMA evenings, with factual, historical and arts&culture contents as well as talks with outstanding personalities on factual geopolitical issues.

She also developed new formats for Special Events (Greek Day, Istanbul week, St Petersburg 300 years week, Easter Special, etc).

She has been active tutoring workshops with directors and producers worldwide since more than 20 years, has acted as expert for the Media programme of the EU Commission in Brussels, was a member of the IDFA FORUM selection twice and member of jury festival many times, as well as a panelist in numerous international coproduction venues.
She is presently member of the EBU – Documentary Expert’s bureau.

Prior to ARTE she was an independent producer of documentaries in Paris.
